How it all started...
The Light KC has a vibrant history rooted in faith and resilience. In 1978 two pastors were commissioned to plant a Wesleyan church in Johnson County, Kansas. In 1980 they resigned. At that time Rev. Phil Harris felt called to take over in Overland Park. He successfully found the current property and shepherded the congregation through the building process. A pivotal moment came in 1991 when Immanuel merged with West Park, creating a thriving community. This success continued with another merger in 2002 with Good Shepherd, leading to the formation of BreakPointe Church. During this time, the church experienced growth, culminating in a significant building expansion in 2009, adding a new sanctuary, classrooms, and a fellowship café area.

Expanding the vision...
In 2022, the church embraced an exciting new chapter by rebranding as The Light KC, signaling a fresh start and renewed purpose. Today, The Light KC shares its building with two other churches and an autism program during the week, fostering community impact. Under Pastor Ryan Hanson, who joined in 2024, the church has seen renewed excitement and a clear vision for the future. With members spanning decades of history and new faces joining regularly, The Light KC remains steadfast in its mission to follow Christ and serve the surrounding community.
Where we are headed...
We are thrilled to witness the incredible work that God is doing at The Light KC. God is providing unprecedented opportunities for us to engage with our community. We are delighted to announce a new partnership with the local elementary school, aimed at supporting teachers, mentoring children, and offering enriching after-school activities—all while sharing the love of Jesus.
Additionally, we are establishing men's groups to foster camaraderie, provide support and accountability, and cultivate a healthy vision of the man God created them to be. The Light KC is also diligently planning social and service events within our community to shine the light of Jesus and make a meaningful impact.
We pray that you will join us as we continue to pursue God's calling and make a difference in the lives of those around us.
